Huge Chipotle fans that we are, word on the street was that lines were out the door and down the street at the new Sioux Falls location during opening week.
Seeing as how we’ve been waiting a decade for this (like, literally!) another week or two won’t kill us, right? But on a random Tuesday we thought we’d stop in, after the lunch rush had a chance to die down.
So what did we find? Well, it’s Chipotle! Yeah! That being said, we think they’re still getting the stuff together. The crew was eager to please, but still a little green, stressed by success. Totally understandable. While we could order (and heck, serve) up various combinations of Chipotle classics in our sleep, there’s a good chance that Sioux Falls is full of newbies who aren’t familiar with the options, peppering the new crew with weird questions.
The food was B+, to be honest. The rice was a little mushy, the portions a little off. We’ve had worse experiences at Chipotles, but better too. Not that this is a deal breaker. It’s a new spot, and we’re sure they’re still getting the kinks out.
But it’s something to consider if you had your first Chipotle last week and left convinced that Qdoba or (gasp!) Panchero’s is better. It’s not folks. It’s just not. Go back and try again, maybe try something new.
It’s high time we got ourselves the foil-wrapped original in Sioux Falls, and we’ll be back soon.
