Attack at The Book Co-op!

Twice (twice!) over the President’s Day weekend, downtown’s most welcoming business was egged by unknown assailants. Who would do such a thing? It appears that target was their new pink and blue flag, a symbol promoting the rights of the transgendered community. While there seems to be no permanent damage, the mess has caused a headache for the owners.

According to the Argus Leader:

Although disheartened by the vandalism, (Full-Circle Book Co-Op co-owner) Kurtz said he was encouraged by the number of people who have supported the business, and hopes that this will be the end of the attacks.

“We’ve had a huge outpouring of support,” he said. “We’re hoping it doesn’t escalate.”

Indeed! If you’ve never stopped into the book co-op, make a point of doing so soon downtown at 123 W. 10th Street . It’s a cozy book-lined space, with strong coffee and beer on tap. Just the thing to kick some inspiration your way.

The Denny’s Ready to Rock!

Sure, we love the local shows, but when the big names come to town everyone gets a little excited. So maybe you’re not a Garth Brooks fan? Still, admit it: You were a little proud of our town for hosting last year’s ridiculous residency.

After a strong start (can you say Sir Paul?) and plenty of big-selling shows, the Premier Center’s calendar has looked a little slim the last few months. More than a few people were starting to worry that we didn’t have the draw to keep top-tier talent coming back. But that changed this week. Take a look!

There’s something there for everyone. Want to keep the shows coming? You gotta convince the bookers that Sioux Falls, SD is worth a stop on the road. How do you do that?

Easy! To quote the Argus Leader’s Joe Sneve “So, for our city’s sake, buy the damn tickets.”

Chipotle Commits!

They’ve been teasing us for years, scouting locations and testing the waters, but local news sources have confirmed: Chipotle is coming to Sioux Falls. They’ve got a spot reserved at Empire Place – a new retail strip expansion at the Empire Mall.

Although Chipotle is sure to do well – there’s nothing quite like their barbacoa and cilantro-lime rice – they might be a little late. Sioux Falls has learned how to get its burrito on over the last few years. We’re already well served by a few established chains, and fans of local favorites such as Giliberto’s, Jacky’s, and Nikki’s won’t be switching loyalties anytime soon.

But more burritos is always better burritos, right? Be sure to give them a big welcome this fall when they open their doors on 41st St.

Too soon to plan ahead for next fall? Not for these big shows at the Washington Pavilion! Every year “The Pav” brings touring companies to Sioux Falls. These are big city productions that hit the road, expanding the reach of their shows to folks that can squeeze in a trip to Broadway.

Think the Pavilion is all about snooty high brow art? Guess again! This year they’re kicking everything off with a musical based on the music of Jimmy Buffet. We’re assuming record bar sales that evening. Be sure to dust off the Tommy Bahamas and do your part!
