Jack’s Bash Brings the Music Back!

Jacks Bask at SDSU
Here’s what it looks like from space!

Need a live music fix? Yeah, we all do. Here’s a glimmer of hope for you: SDSU is hosting a big-ol’ stadium concert Septmeber 8th.

And, like everything right about now, the line-up’s a little weird, trying to do a little something for everyone we suppose. Headlining the show is the Zac Brown Band, the kind boys of country. Opening are mall-punk favs Fall Out Boy, and American Idol contestant Gabby Barrett.

How that works together to make for one-night-of-unforgettable rock, we don’t know. But it does look like a good time, and Brookings is only an hour or so away. This being a sponsored event by SDSU and First Premier (sorry, PREMIER!) Bank, we’d expect first-dib tickets to go to students and employees. But there’s always some floating around out there somewhere. Stayed tuned and we’ll let you know what we hear.

Tre Lounge Eyes Re-Opening

Tre Lounge Re-Opening

“What’s a chislic?”

Yeah, we were those guys. New-ish to the South Dakota, we’d never heard the world before looking over the menu at the Tre Lounge on a cold ‘n stormy winter’s night.

Now, of course, we get chislic all over the town. Who can argue with little bits of deep-friend beef (or lamb, please, if you got it!) It goes great with a beer or two, and lets you pretend that you’re keeping on the right side of your low-carb diet.

So it’s heart-warming news to us that the Tre Lounge is coming back to Sioux Falls. The south-central swath of town could use a kinda-classy watering hole. It’s good to have a place where you can take a date that’s a little more convenient than downtown, and lot better than pretending that you’re having a nice night out when you’re parked at a strip mall on 41st or 57th.

Look for news on the re-opening date this summer. And, of course, a review to follow! (Hope they still have chislic.)

Burger Battle: We’ve Got A Winner!

Papa Woody's Uptowner Burger

This just in! First-year contender Papa Woody’s Wood-Fired Pizza won the burger battle! What? A pizza joint beating out the more sandwich-fluent shops in town? Yep!

The bummer, for us, it that we didn’t get a chance to try this one. But wait! All hope is not lost! They’re planning on keeping the “Uptowner” burger on the menu for the foreseeable future. We’re on our way!

Well done, Papa Woody’s!

Stars Shine at The State Theatre!

state-theatre-sioux-falls-dazed-confused

After years (years!) of attempting to get up-and-running, the State Theatre is putting some long-needed fun in our weekends again. We thought we’d check it out and take in that coming-of-age-classic, Dazed & Confused last Saturday. Alright, alright alright!

They’ve got a great thing going on – big, fancy, motorized seats. Trays for your drinks and grub. Shiny and clean and classy all around!

We’d recommend you pop in for film sometime soon. Dinner and movie always makes for a classic date, and being able to park once and enjoy the whole night in downtown is about as good as it gets.

Here’s what’s coming soon – buy your tickets now!

February 4 & 6: MLK/FBI (NR)
February 5-7: DIRTY DANCING (PG-13)
February 6-7: COOL RUNNINGS (PG) – Presented by MIDCO
February 6: THE THING (R)

Falls Park Nation’s Best?

For a small town in a small state (or a big town in a wide-open state, perhaps) Sioux Falls likes to punch above its weight. And that pretty cool! You go guys!

The latest proof can be found in USA Today: The paper is doing a “10 Best” poll, and Falls Park is in the running for Best City Park. Not sure how we can beat out Portland and San Diego, but hey, it’s worth a shot. Show some home-town pride and Go Vote!
