Go See Willie…Next Year!

Willie Nelson Corn Palace
Immortalized, for a season.

We’re still kicking ourselves for not grabbing some tickets floating around for Willie’s show at The Corn Palace a few years ago. (C’mon, Willie Nelson at The Corn Palace??? Does it get any more perfect than that???) But hopefully we’ll be making the trip up to Brookings next summer.

Like most things this year, Willie Nelson’s show at the Swiftel Center got booted to some later date TBD. Well, the news is in, and he’ll be bringing the family to South Dakota August 11th, 2021.

Yeah, that’s a long way, but get your tickets now and make it a date. The Red-Headed Stranger’s one of those ones you want to catch while you can.

Afroman Rhymes Up Your Hometown

Well, this was off our radar. It seems that back in 2011, Afroman immortalized the great State of South Dakota on his release Cross-Country Pimpin’.

It’s a travelog of frustration, roughly happening along the I-90 corridor. He claims “Bookings in Brookings,” although we can find no proof that he actually performed here.

Set to the tune of Hotel California, it ain’t a bad little jingle, or at least it ain’t bad if you’re a fan of his big hit “Because I Got High.” Afroman’s kept active ever since, with his holiday album A Colt .45 Christmas being a guilty pleasure around here. Maybe this will get a few more spins too. Maybe Kristi Noem can use it for her next commercial?

From a sociological standpoint, he seems to have gotten the concept of Midwestern Nice right on the money: Lots of friendly talk, but alas, no action.

Give it a listen and let us know your thoughts. NSFW, obviously.

GhostCat Live In The Headlights!

Sioux City’s finest indie rock band is doing an off-the-record pop-up show in Sioux Falls tonight. Want to get the scoop? You’ll need to head to https://www.parkandart.com/ and sign up!

A new underground arts collective called The Headlights Theater is making the most of the locked-down lifestyle, throwing after-dark shows in parking lots around town. Like the old raves of the 90s, they don’t tell you where the party’s gonna be until it’s time to get to the party!

So RSVP, but keep it on the down-low! ‘Cause the fuzz can’t bust what the fuzz don’t know!

Levitt Shell Pivots!

Computer-rendered version of what 2021 will look like… fingers crossed!

After a fantastic opening season, Levitt at the Falls faced the painful decision to cut back on the big shows, doing their part to keep the Covid Crisis in check.

While many, many of us live music fans were sad to hear that there wouldn’t be free tunes echoing over the river this summer, no one can disagree that it was the right thing to do.

Thankfully, the fine local folks that keep the Sioux Falls edition of the Levitt Foundation going are making the most of the conundrum, putting together a series of pop-up neighborhood concerts to keep the music (and the good times) alive.

Check back here for a full report on where to catch their next event!

And see you Summer 2021! Odds are it’ll be packed, so we’ll be getting there early and staking out a spot on the lawn, something convenient to the JJ’s tent, of course.
