The Force Was Strong at SiouxperCon!

siouxpercon

Ok. We missed this one. Not that we wouldn’t have had a great time, but time(s) tight this fall! That being said, SiouxperCon has been on the FYI radar for a few years now and we’ll be making sure we make it soon. We like to think of ourselves as nerd-adjacent. Not too cool to be schooled, just never one to plan the party. That being said, we’ve been sipping a beer and watching you guys play D&D since high school. Just ’cause we don’t know what’s going on doesn’t mean we aren’t having fun!

But If you didn’t hear, “SiouxperCon was back in 2021! Now in its fifth year, SiouxperCon has quickly grown into the most anticipated annual Siouxland event for lovers of all things in the “nerd” community. SiouxperCon is your friendly, neighborhood fan convention where all are welcome in a family-friendly, inclusive environment!”

Guys, check it out in 2022!

Mystery Q-Sponsored Park Bench!

Need some fuel for your conspiracy fire? Local blogger SouthDaCola spotted a “Q” park bench in Sioux Falls. Usually, these things are put up via sponsored donations, little tributes to that-guy-that-passed-away who loved to go fishing, etc. So, who ponied up the dough for this one? Did they pay in BitCoin?

Q Bench Sioux Falls

The sign’s been removed, but the mystery remains… Fear not, brother, it’s all under control!

Four Winds Music & Arts Fest!

Since Covid put the kibosh on Total Drag’s always-awesome live shows, we’ve been itching to get some local-ish live music in to our ear holes. This weekend we’re gonna get the chance!

The Four Winds Music & Arts Fest is coming to Big’s Bar. Now, of course Big’s ain’t as hip as Total Drag or the Icon space downtown, but they do have plenty of room and good-sized stage and enough grit on everything to make it feel like a real rock-n-roll hangout. If it’s your crowd that takes over for the night, you’re gonna feel right at home. (Talkin’ to you, hipster!) We’ve spent some good times with a few of these bands over the last few years, and it’s gonna be good to get back and get out and have a little fun.

Go Big’s or stay home!

ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons Spotted in Town!

Billy Gibbons, last-surviving bearded member of the legendary Texas boogie-rockers ZZ Top was just spotted at Guitar Center in Sioux Falls.

Why?

Well, as comedy-mastermind (and Guitar Center employee) Nate Hults tells us, “He was stopping through on his way to Sturgis. His lady wanted to stop at TJ Maxx.”

True story! Yes, even when you’re on your way to melt faces at the world’s biggest bike-rally, you gotta listen to your special lady. Remember that, gentlemen. Some things never change.

Go ZZ Top! We hope you’re kicking bass-less butt in the Black Hills. Do it for Dusty!

An R-Rated Circus At The Mall?

kids, you’ve been warned…!

Here’s a head-scratcher for ya: Seems that there’s a “Paranormal Circus” taking up residency next week at the The Empire Mall.

From the website:

“A new show with breathtaking implications always poised between fun and the most uninhibited fear that will transport you to a dark world inhabited by creatures with incredible circus art abilities.

A crazy yet fun fusion between Circus, theatre, and cabaret in perfect harmony with the evolution of a show that brings you back to when we dream … and when we had nightmares and fantasies.

Scare, encompass, amuse and surprise are the ingredients for a mixture of emotions impossible to forget.
This is truly a Paranormal experience like no other.”

So then, a few questions: 1) Where is this actually taking place? In the food court? In the old Sears space? 2) Who thought The Mall would be the place to for a 17-and-up show? Ain’t it still the place the middle-schoolers go for some psuedo-safe away time from mom & pop? 3) Who wrote the copy for the website? And why is it being advertised on Facebook in Italian? 3) Also, will it be any good?

If you’re make planning on making it out, or if you know the facts, drop us a line! Whatever it is, it’s pretty cool that the weird, wild stuff is happening in town.
